What is medical transcription?
When a doctor examines a patient with health problems and gets to know the persons past medical history, a detailed physical examination is carried out and if required, a series of laboratory or diagnostic tests are prescribed, and accordingly the line of treatment is planned and discussed with the patient, the entire medical records of the patient are then dictated in a voice recording equipment such as a portable sound recorder, or into a telephone which is connected to a hospital owned server or into a transcription company’s server, where a medical transcriber listens to the doctors dictation and documents the record on a word processor using customized templates. These reports become a legal medical record of the patient, which can be accessed by insurance companies or for the patient’s follow-up visits.
