1: The doctor examines the patient and based on the diagnosis plans a line of treatment.
2: Dictation process: The doctors use a palm-held digital recorder to read the line of treatment and diagnosis of the patient. If the hospitals have functional EMR software, the doctors read the dictations into it.
3: The dictation is uploaded on to the transcription vendors’ website that has a file transfer facility (FTP) available. Medical Transcription Service apart from the FTP facility has a dedicated toll free phone-in-dictation feature that allows doctors to dial and dictate, rather than use the digital dictation device.
4: After the audio recordings of the dictations are made available, the transcriber access the recordings and aided by a transcription software document the dictations, this is further proof read by an editor, before these are made available to the doctor.
5: Based on the facility used by the doctor, the transcripts are either sent by email or uploaded to the EMR software of the hospital. The doctors review the documented medical record of the patient on their computer screen before e signing the reports for archiving them for later use.
